Remember my Happy New Year post a few days ago? Well, I played around with Snapseed on my iPad a little bit (Thanks iTunes 12 days of xmas app!!) and came up with a better version:
voila!
So I was walking down my street coming home from work (hence the dark and not-so-great photos) and something caught my eye in a shop window that usually catches my eye: TYPE!
Real, actual, wooden type, right off a letterpress bed. Paired with mirrors so that common non type-nerds could read what it said! And bilingual!
So who are these geniuses who constantly amaze me with their simple yet stunning window displays? Well, the shop used to be a clothing store, but that closed a few months back, and since then, though I had noticed the window displays, I had never seen any sign of who inhabited the store-turned-office-space now. I thought : only Architects could produce such simplicity right?
Wrong! Turns out, when you look for something, you usually find out it’s been there all along… So right in front of my face I finally saw the name I had been looking for: Gravemaker + Scott . And they’re not architects, they’re Graphic Designers, like me! With a penchant for print work and letterpress, like me! Amazing! and right under my nose…
I know I’m really not “supposed to” but I can’t help it, I constantly judge books by their cover, and One Day is no exception. I have to admit I went a little bit over the top on this one and purposefully bought it in France, though in English, so that I could have this cover and not the one from the movie.
I haven’t even read very much of it yet, though I like it so far, but I am totally in love with the cover!
I love love love this magazine!! Their words are better than mine:
“Paper Runway is a quarterly magazine that offers you a mix of
paper goodness, hot paper products, fabulous features, beautiful paper,
party inspirations, features about the hottest paper sculptors, artists,
illustrators, creators and quick DIY projects. ”
Find out more about Paper Runway, and browse through some back issues.
I’ve been trying to learn how to use some software a bit more, and right now I’m focusing on Photoshop. It’s a hugely powerful application that I use probably about 1% of so far, so I’m slowly learning more through tutorials and projects.
I’ve found a great tutorial on the Spoon Graphics Bog, and these are some of the results:
I tend to go a bit over board with the burning (red spots) but other than that, I quite like them!
Try it out for yourself, I’d love to see the results!
